Hey Reader Have you ever noticed how quickly people turn to you when something needs to be handled? You are the one who remembers the details, solves problems, keeps the conversation moving, checks on everyone else, and somehow finds a way to make things work. People trust you because you are capable. They may even call you strong, but there is a question we do not ask often enough: Everyone relies on you—but who do you rely on? That is the question at the heart of this week’s episode of Work it, Live it, Own it! I’m talking about the quiet loneliness that can come with being the person everyone counts on.
You can be surrounded by people and still feel unsupported. You can have a full calendar, a wide network, and plenty of people who admire you, yet not have one person who knows when you're having a difficult day. In this episode, I talk about the difference between being needed and being supported. We will explore what happens when your value starts to feel tied to your usefulness, why asking for help can feel so uncomfortable, and how letting someone see a small crack can create space for genuine connection. I also share a personal moment when I realized I had built a network of people who needed me, but not yet a community that knew how to support me. That realization changed the way I think about leadership, relationships, and work-life integration. A simple practice I share in the episode is the support-circle audit. Ask yourself: Who in my life knows when I am struggling? If one person comes to mind, try sharing one honest sentence with them this week. It could be as simple as, “I have been carrying more than I have said,” or “I don’t need you to solve this, but I would appreciate you listening.” You do not have to explain everything. You do not have to wait until you are overwhelmed. You can begin with one small act of honesty. An exclusive reflection for youBefore you listen, take two quiet minutes and complete these three sentences: 1.People often rely on me for… 2.What I wish someone would notice about me right now is… 3.One form of support I am willing to receive this week is… Keep your answers private, or share them with someone you trust. This reflection is just for you, because you deserve a space where you do not have to perform strength. You do not have to stop being capable. You do not have to abandon your goals or the people you love. But you also do not have to carry every responsibility alone. True empowerment is not isolation. It is having the courage to be fully human, to name what you need, and to allow trusted people to stand beside you.
